100 Best Workout Songs of 2008: What's Your Favorite?

By: Nicole Nichols : 1/22/2009 6:30:15 AM : 209 comments

The January 2009 issue of Fitness magazine recently named their top 100 workout tunes of 2008. I was so excited to see this list, because I'm always looking for new songs to add to my iPod and use in my classes. Find out if your favorites made the list!

Fitness breaks the 100 songs into five categories, which each include 20 of the best songs for Spinning, running, walking, weight training and even yoga. I have to admit that I hadn't heard most of the songs on this list, but here are the ones that I do like from their list:

Madonna featuring Justin Timberlake and Timbaland 4 Minutes

Estelle ft. Kanye West: American Boy

Britney Spears: Womanizer

Rihanna: Disturbia

Fallout Boy: I Don't Care

Natasha Bedingfield: Pocketful of Sunshine

Coldplay: Viva La Vida

The Killers: Human

Big Hair 80s like Warrant's "Down Boys" or "Uncle Tom's Cabin", AC/DC "You Shook Me All Night Long. Or I can go the other way and listen to "Hello Good Morning" by Diddy or "I'm in the House" by Steve Aoki. As long as it has a good beat, its on my ipod.

I posted this on another board, but I'll post it here too:
Music is such a personal thing. I absolutely love hiphop and funk when I'm doing cardio. Blackeyed Peas - Let's Get it Started and Destiny's Child - Bootylicious are 2 of my faves. Fatboy Slim and Moby are awesome too. But so is Enigma - if you skip the super trance-y stuff. Anything with a good, steady, rockin' beat! Oh - and Earth, Wind and Fire! Love, love, love them!

Steven Curtis Chapman and Michael W. Smith have some really wonderful "fast beat Christian tunes".

Chapman's "All About Love" CD has at least 5 songs I can think of and Smith's "Go West Young Men" is an old title, but has some nice tracks too. Petra too has some great music. There is a lot out there. Go to iTunes.com and listen to samples. :0)

I love Taylor Swift's new CD "Fearless". A lot of the songs get me going on the elliptical. I especially love "I'm Only Me When I'm With You" from her debut cd.

I'm a Christian and don't know any of the songs listed on either site. I think it would be great if Sparkpeople could come up with a "religious" list of songs for people who don't or won't listen to this kind of music.

Being a metalhead and a rocker girl I love loudmusic that distracts me from my surroundings and lets me out of my shell.
for example, heres some stuff youll find on my playlist;

Dragula, Numb, and Living Dead Girl - Rob Zombie
Something in your mouth - Nickelback
Pet- A Perfect Circle
Into the night - chad kroeger and carlos santana
Carmelldansen by Caramell (techno)
Shut up and swollow - combichrist (hardcore industrial)
Pour some sugar on me - Def lepoard
Hungry for heaven - Dio
Supermassive blackhole - Muse
I Don't wanna stop - Ozzy Osbourne

anyways, hope that'll help others lookin for a bit more then dance and hip hop :)

Here's the sad thing for me: I have two seniors in high school and I still haven't heard of some of these artists! I can say that I'm not up to date on the current music. I LOVE my 80's! However, I'm listening to the spark people list right now to see what I actually have heard and know! Maybe I'll catch up to the current when it's the past, who knows??

A lot of what I listen to is on 'the list' coldplay, justin timberlake, Fall Out Boy...but my absolute favorite find is a ~6 minute 'remix' of Depeche Mode's 'Personal Jesus'. It lasts and lasts and has the perfect beat.!

Hey! Anybody out there like to listen to christian rock like Kutless? I love to listen to my local christian radio station while I'm on the treadmill or out walking...not all they play is upbeat enough to push me along, but the inspiration from the lyrics keeps me going!
