Contest CLOSED: Share Your Favorite Salad, Win an OXO Good Grips Salad Chopper Bowl

By: Stepfanie Romine : 3/30/2009 12:00:00 PM : 1174 comments

Thanks for entering. This contest is now closed.

There are two basic kinds of salad eaters: those who focus on aesthetics and those who focus on function. Those who favor aesthetics artfully slice pepper rings, scatter on dried cranberries and toss chunks of chicken atop large leafy pieces of greens. Each item is carefully placed on their canvas of greens. Theirs is a knife-and-fork salad, one that could grace any restaurant menu.

The functional salad carpenters chop lettuce into bite-size pieces, toss on chopped vegetables and shred their protein into forkable bits. Theirs is meant to be eaten not admired.

If you're in that latter category, you'll love our latest giveaway. We're giving away an OXO Good Grips Salad Chopper Bowl, a $27.95 value.

This large plastic salad bowl comes with a chopper, which resembles a double-bladed pizza cutter. It will chop any salad into small bites, guaranteeing a perfect blend of flavors in every bite. This gadget would come in handy for families or anyone who doesn't want to have to wield and knife and fork during the salad course.

This giveaway will run from now until noon on Monday, April 6, at noon. One lucky winner (sorry, it has to be someone living in the U.S. according to our rules) will get this salad bowl and chopper, plus another surprise gift. Remember not to comment on the rules!

To enter, leave a comment below. I want to know: What is your favorite salad combination? I never tire of pistachios, goat cheese and berries with red wine vinaigrette; chickpeas, red peppers and carrots with curry-yogurt dressing; and sautéed mushrooms and onions with thyme and goat cheese over spinach.

I have gone through EVERY salad recipe here looking for one I saw made with bagged cabbage mix, diced cucumber & tomato and raspberry dressing but it had other things in it too that I can't remember. Anyone know what I am looking for? If not I will wing it. Add craisins, sunflower seeds etc. but it sounded so good. I thought I would remember it.

I really like salads, my favorite is mixed greens, with some baby spinach, low fat cheese and mushrooms, my favorite dressing is the fat free Dorothy Lynch, I do not use much of it for lots of flavors. I will toss in anything else I may have.

I love fruit in salad. Lately, what I've been doing is getting a bagged salad for convenience (one of the Dole salads), then adding chopped strawberries, apples, or a handful of blueberries. I'll toss in some warmed grilled chicken, which I often season with garam masala or other eastern spices during cooking; for some reason, I really love the contrast between cool leaves and warm meat. Yum!

My current favorite salad is Cuban Coleslaw. Take a bag of pre-shredded cabbage and carrots. Add two large diced tomatoes, the juice from two lemons and one lime, and a bunch of cilantro, diced fine. Mix it all together with a tablespoon of olive oil and salt an pepper to taste. Use more lemon juice if you want. YUM! Super good with grilled or baked fish, chicken breast or just by itself! And the best part is that you can get all the ingredients easily year-round!

I'm afraid I'm not fond of "foo-foo" salads with all those colorful mixed leaves. Too many tastes in what I consider the platform for the REAL salad ingredients. I'm also not much on adding fruits and nuts although I'm beginning to use pumpkin seeds. I'm a basic salad person.....cucumber, tomato, celery, onion, some type of meat or protein. I'm beginning to try some new things like avocado, green olives, and beans. Always fat free balsamic vinaigarette from Maple Farms....can't beat the flavor with 0 calories and fats!
