See More: super bowl,
The Super Bowl is synonymous with friendly get-togethers and party food. Too bad it usually leaves us feeling weighed down by the time the night is over. This year, let's change that!

Whether you watch the game on your own this weekend or invite a few fitness-minded friends to join you, vow to keep this year's game night healthy with light Super Bowl eats or my favorite: The Super Bowl Workout Game!  It's a fun, calorie-torching, muscle-challenging game that you can play (if you dare!) while you watch on Sunday.

Try this workout on Super Bowl Sunday or while you watch any football game in the future.

Every time the call or action on the left happens, perform the exercise listed on the right. For a printable PDF of this workout, click here.

For a printable PDF of this workout, click here.

It's guaranteed to have you rooting during the game (for the right or the wrong reasons!) and to make you sweat…a lot.

Will you be watching the Super Bowl? Will you try the Super Bowl Workout Game while you do?

I'll try it. I'm pretty sure the 10 pushups for beer commercials would kill me just during the pre-game. - 2/5/2012   9:38:53 AM

We don't have a TV so I won't be seeing the game (thank goodness cuz football has never been my thing), but I think this workout is AWESOME!!!! Coach Nicole, you have outdone yourself and made me laugh at the same time. I 'm secretly hoping for many a wardrobe malfunction, aging rock stars on stage and 2 point conversions because I'm going to imagine Sparkers everywhere doing The Chicken Dance, burpees and The Macarena today. :-D - 2/5/2012   9:26:28 AM

    I'm gonna try it! - 2/5/2012   6:29:15 AM

Great idea but you wouldn't see much of the game if you followed this to a tee; it'd be a 4-hour workout! - 2/5/2012   4:07:28 AM

we opted to stay home this year - to avoid the temptations! This is a good idea - not sure if I will do it all, but I will try - DH may think I'm crazy. - 2/5/2012   1:34:26 AM

This is a GREAT idea! Fun and a good workout. I shared the list with my husband, and I will try to do at least some of these during the game. - 2/4/2012   6:05:31 PM

This workout plan seems like a lot of fun and will keep the game more interesting than this current match up will. - 2/4/2012   5:40:37 PM

We do beer lifts and chip crunches on Superbowl Sunday at our house! - 2/4/2012   2:36:30 PM

Modify. I think it would be fun to pick a handful of these and have my whole family do it together. It will get us up off the couch/floor. - 2/4/2012   12:45:30 PM

Interesting, though would be totally wiped out by the end of the game. Not sure which one was Super Bowl 42. I assume that was the last time that the Giants played the Patriots. :) sure there will be plenty of references to that game.
Don't much care for the half time show so we usually watch the Puppy Bowl on AP channel too. They are much cuter than the football players. :) - 2/4/2012   12:32:25 PM

Relax guys. This is Super Bowl 46. There won't be as many mentions of Super Bowl 42 as Danjodea calculated. - 2/4/2012   12:29:09 PM

Wow.... follow all those you'll hardly have time to watch the game itself. - 2/4/2012   12:13:35 PM

I'm so excited! What a fun challenge. My list is all printed out and ready to go! Thank you so much for such a fun fitness plan. - 2/4/2012   12:04:14 PM

My husband's initial response to exercising during the game was "no way" but once I pointed out how it works, he's in. I figure we may not even get half of them in, but any exercise is better than no exercise! - 2/4/2012   12:03:07 PM

I was surprised my 18 y-o son wasn't going to a Superbowl party, even though he doesn't like football (what happened to "any excuse for a party?"). His response: it would be boring. I'll have to give him this! - 2/4/2012   10:39:21 AM

I am totally doing this! I hope our house guests and kids join me. :D I am hoping for NO 2 point conversions!!!! lol - 2/4/2012   10:33:26 AM

LOL, I don't watch football, but this sounds like so much fun we might have to turn on the game. I've probably only watched a handful of times in the past, just to see the commercials and halftime. Definitely would add some extra interest for me, and quite a workout by the end of the night!!! - 2/4/2012   9:45:25 AM

Not really interested in watching football. Did use to love going to the games at the high school when my 4th son was playing. Now that was fun. - 2/4/2012   9:17:31 AM

Sounds good except for, as others pointed out, the use of "Superbowl 42". This gets said every commercial, twice (once for the break, once upon returning), and at least once between breaks; by my estimation, that's 30 single-leg hops every 10 minutes for three hours, a total of 540 single-leg hops alone. Add in the beer commercials (for at least 100 pushups) and I think this may be a bit much.

In concept this is an excellent idea, but I think I'll just climb on my elliptical for the first half and the treadmill for the second, doing a standard band workout during halftime. - 2/4/2012   8:50:35 AM

Woo Hoo! Great way to burn off those few beers! lol - 2/4/2012   8:11:45 AM

    This is a fantastic goal/idea! I'll be doing it. - 2/4/2012   8:03:44 AM

The ONLY complaint I have is the squats for timeouts - have a feeling there will be so many I might not be able to walk the next day! - 2/4/2012   6:37:04 AM

HAHAHAHA!! Love it!! I tweeted it, and I emailed it to all my friends. Great way to relieve the stress from the game, and to burn off the beer and pretzels!

Its probably great -however I can't watch the game - since I live in Oz - and even if I could - the terms are double dutch to me!!
Having said that - I think the idea can be adapted easily to other sports so is great!! - 2/3/2012   11:20:39 PM

    What is a burpee? - 2/3/2012   11:11:09 PM

Aging actor? SB42 mention? I'd be dead by half time. Not to mention beer commercials, I'd be dead by end of the first quarter. - 2/3/2012   8:17:26 PM

We will DEFINITELY be incorporating this into our superbowl! - 2/3/2012   7:20:18 PM

I like that...I've printed it, and will do those exercises in addition to watching at least half the game from my treadmill.

Gotta go for the G-Men...go Giants!!! - 2/3/2012   6:00:22 PM

I don't watch the Super Bowl. I usually try and catch the commericals. I may have to watch this year so I can get this workout in. - 2/3/2012   5:43:40 PM

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The burpee is a full body exercise used in strength training and as aerobic exercise. It is performed in four steps, and was originally known as a "four-count Burpee":

    Begin in a standing position.
Drop into a squat position with your hands on the ground. (count 1)
Extend your feet back in one quick motion to assume the front plank position. (count 2)
Return to the squat position in one quick motion. (count 3)
Return to an upright standing position. (count 4)

Won't be watching the Super Bowl, I never do, but this is a super idea. I can see guys getting really competitive with it. For animal lovers who would rather get two hours of "awww" there is always Puppy Bowl VIII on Animal Planet. www.animal.discovery.com/tv/puppy-b

Fun idea -- but I would need to cut the # of reps in half for it to stay fun. I can barely do 20 push ups total. - 2/3/2012   12:40:33 PM

Too bad I cannot watch the Super Bowl from where I live! It sure sounds like fun. - 2/3/2012   12:36:22 PM

I can't wait to try this!! It will only be me at my house so I have free reign of how stupid I may look doing them. - 2/3/2012   12:32:03 PM

I'm in, sounds like fun and pain all at the same time! I sure do hate the plank, lets hope the offense knows how to protect the quarterback on Sunday!! - 2/3/2012   11:33:05 AM
